Study Objectives • Describe the essential functions of a winter MDSS. • Describe the resources needed to supply the essential functions of an MDSS. • Characterize and estimate the costs of deploying MDSS in state transportation departments. • Characterize and estimate the benefits of deploying MDSS in state transportation departments.
Study Tasks • Meet with project’s technical panel • Interview stakeholders, identify: • identify objectives for MDSS deployment • potential costs and benefits • data sources for formal benefit/cost analysis • Define a detailed analysis methodology • Estimate tangible benefits and costs of MDSS deployment alternatives evaluate the risk • Characterize intangible benefits and costs
Study Tasks • Report findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the project’stechnical panel. • Develop outreach materials suitable for distribution to elected officials and state DOT decision makers • Prepare a final report of research methodology, findings, conclusions and recommendations. • Make an executive presentation to the project’s technical panel and provide electronic copies
