  1. Applications of Inverse Matrices Cryptography A cryptogram is a message written according to secret code. (The Greek work kryptos means “hidden.”) Matrix multiplication can be used to encode and decode messages. To begin, you need to assign a number to each letter in the alphabet (w/ 0 assigned to a blank space), as follows:

  2. Applications of Inverse Matrices • Using the encoding matrix below encode a message. • Write down the message. • Convert the message to #’s. • Group the numbers into 1 X 3 matrices. • Multiply each group by the encoding matrix. • Write down the new set of #’s. • Convert the new #’s to letters.

  3. Applications of Inverse Matrices MATH ROCKS Multiples of 27: 27, 54, 81, 108, 135, 162, 189

  4. Applications of Inverse Matrices Decode the following message. The encoding matrix is given below. To decode: Follow same steps as encoding Except multiply by the inverse matrix What do you have if you have 6 oranges in one hand and 8 oranges in the other? KTLRFBDIX

  5. Applications of Inverse Matrices What do you have if you have 6 oranges in one hand and 8 oranges in the other? KTLRFBDIX Multiples of 27: 27, 54, 81, 108, 135, 162, 189
