  11. Zip Code Centroids Zip Codes Zip Codes are defined at the convenience of the U.S. Postal Service and can change for many reasons Average number of changes per year – 7,407.6 As of January 2014, there are roughly 453 Zip Codes in Nevada Average population per Zip Code – 7,423

  12. Zip Code Centroids (continued) ZCTA – Zip Code Tabulation Areas • Census Blocks are assigned the most frequently used Zip Code • Blocks aggregated to make up the ZCTAs • U.S. Census population data is available

  15. Geocoding Process Add the excel file to be geocoded Right-click the excel file in the Table of Contents Select the Geocode Addresses Choose the correct Address Locator Click OK Choose a location and name the Results file Click OK

  16. Geocoding Process (continued) • Select Rematch to review the results • Determine if there are common characteristics that can easily be changed • Make note of the necessary changes to the addresses, and • Either correct the original file and rerun the geocoding process, or • Make the corrections in the Rematch dialog box • Make recommendations to standardize future data entry
