  2. Hebrews 10:35-39 • The need for confidence is constant and compelling in an ever-changing world • Confidence can be “cast away” Instead of trust, reliance, certainty, assurance, security… There is weariness, doubt, wickedness, restlessness (Isa. 57:20-21)

  3. Confidence Possibilities Some people have… • No confidence (Eph. 2:12) • False confidence (Mt. 7:21-23) • Little confidence (Mt. 14:31) • Genuine confidence (Heb. 10:22)

  4. Confidence Properly Grounded • Our confidence is not placed in… The flesh (Phil. 3:3-5) Self-righteousness (Phil 3:6-9) Subjectivism False doctrines (Calvinism, Reincarnation, etc.) Attendance only

  5. Confidence Properly Grounded • Our confidence is placed in… Christ (Eph. 3:12) Christ’s ability to guard us (2 Tim. 1:12) Christ’s promises (2 Pet. 1:4)

  6. Confidence Brings Blessings • Pertaining to the past – forgiveness (Heb. 10:22) • Pertaining to the present – hope (Heb. 6:18) and answered prayer (1 Jn. 5:14-15) • Pertaining to the future – heaven (1 Cor. 5:1)

  7. Confident That You Are Saved How can you know that you are saved? • Walk in the light (1 Jn. 1:5-7) • Confess your sins (1 Jn. 1:8-2:2) • Keep his commandments (1 Jn. 2:3-6) • Love your brethren (1 Jn. 3:14-15; 4:11-13; 5:2) • Love not the world (2:15-17; 5:4-5)

  8. Confident That You Are Saved How can you know that you are saved? • Confess Christ (1 Jn. 2:18ff; 4:1-3,15-17; 5:13) • Practice righteousness, not sin (1 Jn. 3:4-10) • Have a pure conscience (1 Jn. 3:18-22) • Let the H.S. dwell in you (1 Jn. 3:24; 4:13) • Listen to the Apostles (1 Jn. 4:4-6)
