Safer Aotearoa Family Violence Prevention Network BELIEFS • Both the need of the victim’s safety and support to heal; and the need for perpetrators to change, must be addressed. • Both genders are subject to being perpetrators, as well as victims.
Safer Aotearoa Family Violence Prevention Network BELEIFS CONTINUED The Domestic Violence Act describes abuse as: • PHYSICAL: hitting, punching, pushing slapping, kicking, hair pulling • SEXUAL: trying to get the victim to perform sexual acts against their will, sexual jokes, rape • PHYCOLOGICAL:humiliating the victim, controlling what the victim can and cannot do and deliberately doing something to make the victim feel embarrassed
