Bradley Farm is situated in south west Northumberland. • Bradley is a 200ha hill farm with sheep and suckler cow enterprise.
Owned by the Natural Trust, Julian and Lesley Acton have been tenants since 1987. The farm is subject to many constraints both Natural and Man Made
In common with other hill farms, its height (300m above sea level) and exposure to wind leads to a long winter and a relatively short growing season. While thin soils, rocky slopes and areas of water logging mean that most of the farm is only suitable to grass production and grazing animals.
Lying within Northumberland National Park, the land is in the Roman Wall Escarpments SSSI and Hadrian's Wall world heritage site. North of the farm you will find two long distance footpaths- the Pennine Way and the newly made Hadrian's Wall Path
The aim of the Bradley Farm is to manage the land in a way sensitive to the requirements of visitors, archaeology and wildlife while maintaining a viable farm business.
To keep the farm profitable the holding has been extended by renting additional land from the Natural Trust and a neighbour bringing the holding size to 350ha and entering the Governments Countryside Stewardship Scheme
