Morning Drop Off • Students are allowed to enter the building at 8:20. They may enter through the main door or the pod doors. • Students will notbe supervised before 8:20. For the safety of your children, please have them arrive between 8:20-8:30. • School starts at 8:30. Students arriving after 8:30 will be tardy and need to get a slip from the office before coming into the classroom.

Literacy Block • FUNdations • A phonics based spelling/reading and handwriting program • Reading Workshop • Focuses on Comprehension, Accuracy (decoding the words), Fluency (reading the text at an appropriate rate and with expression), and Vocabulary • Whole Group, Flexible Small Groups, and Individualized Instruction • Child-centered reading activities during workshop may include: • Listening to reading, Writing, Shared Reading, Poetry, Independent reading, and Word Work • Writer’s Workshop • Introduction to various writing styles using authors as mentors • Writing Process
Math • Math Expressions - resource • Math Workshop • counting forwards and backwards • one-to-one correspondence • partners of 5 and 10 • sequencing numbers • 2D and 3D shapes • addition and subtraction • teen numbers • measurement

Lunch • Talk to your child about whether he/she is eating hot lunch or cold lunch (lunchbox) before school. Menu can be found on the Rooney Ranch website. • Label your lunchbox. • You may pay for lunch online (schoolcafe) or send money to school. There is a transaction fee for this method. • Please pack water bottle and a lunch specific drink.

Parent Volunteers • We will be asking for volunteers beginning in October. This allows us time to establish routines in the classroom. • Sign up available mid-September.
Snacks • Please pack a healthy snack • Fruit, vegetables, cheese, protein, crackers, etc. • Pack your child with a sustainable snack that will keep them full and ready to learn. • Please pack your child’s snack separately from their lunch.
Kindergarten Buddy • At one point during the school year, your child will bring home our classroom Kindergarten Buddy. • When Buddy comes home with your child, he/she can write about what adventures they have with Buddy. This can be through pictures, words, etc., but needs to be done by the child.
Birthdays • Your child’s birthday will be recognized and celebrated at school on the weekly announcements and in the classroom. • Treats will not be allowed. • Other ways that you can celebrate your child’s birthday • Stickers/Pencils to pass out for the class • Birthday Book Club with Mrs. Schiele • Donate a book to the classroom library in your child’s name • Please do not send birthday invitations to school. Please refer to the online school directory.
Important Dates • August 13 - Student Orientation/Supply Drop Off • August 14 and 15 – 11:30 dismissal for all Kindergarten students • August 16 – First full day – 8:30 – 3:10 • August 23 and August 26 Assessment Days - No Regular classes • September 2 – No school • September 19 Field Day • September 20 No school • October 9 and 10 – Parent teacher conferences
Odds and Ends • Before and After Care – Coordinate with the City of Lakewood • Please leave toys at home • at certain times of the year we will allow students to bring in a stuffed animal from home • If your child is going home differently than usual, please call the front office so they can get a message to us as we are not able to check email before dismissal. • Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the ever changing Colorado weather. We will have recess outside most days.
