  11. DISCUSSION QUESTIONSSNOW CHAPTER 3 • What are your goals for one of your classes? Make a general list. • Do you include motivation building in your lessons? If yes, explain how you do this. If you don’t, what are some ways that you can motivate your students to do well in English? • Do you agree with Snow that developing listening skills is more important than developing speaking skills when starting to learn English? Explain. • How much do you use the textbook when you teach? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the textbook that you are using? Are they the same reasons that Snow gives? • What learning methods work best for you? Would any of them work for your students?

  12. DISCUSSION DIRECTIONS • In a group, discuss ALL five questions (Portuguese or English). • Choose one person in each group to take notes in English. • Choose one person in each group to be the speaker. • Choose one person to write the group’s ideas and discussion points on a piece of paper. • After a few minutes, you will pass your paper to another group. • The speaker in each group will present another group’s ideas.

  13. REFLECTION • Talk in your group about this activity. • Did you like it? Why? Why did I do it? What kinds of skills did you practice? As students, what did you do in this activity? What are some of good points of this activity? What are some of the bad points? Provides review OR an incentive to read the book. Encourages discussion and provides speaking and listening practice. Talking helps you organize your thoughts. Allows us to share ideas.  NOTICE: groups didn’t read their own ideas.

  14. ASSIGN NEW HOMEWORK • Work on your posters and presentations. • Organize your conference committees and get started on your responsibilities. • Use your WordScapes activity in your own classroom and come to our next session prepared to discuss the results.
