OBJECTIVES Students will be able to: 1. Know vocabulary about plant and how to grow a plant. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of plants and plant growing. 3. Conduct research on the internet about plants and plant growing. 4. Express feelings and opinions about plant growing.
Introduction • Plants are every where around us. • They are a critical part of our life on this planet because they form the basis of all food webs, and most importantly creating oxygen for us to breathe and survive.
Introduction • What are parts of a plant called? • What are their benefits? • How can we grow a plant to protect the environment as well as our own lives?
TASKS • RESEARCH: You will be researching information about plants and how to grow a plant from websites. • TELLING: You will be telling the class what you learned about plants and plant growing. • REPORTING: You will write about what you learned and how you feel about plants and plant growing. • PRESENTING: You will be designing a creative and interesting presentation and practising growing plants in the school’s garden.
PROCESS • Students will work in groups of four or five. • Each group will be assigned a specific aspect of plant to research on the web. • Each group will present their information to the class in a fun and creative way.
PROCESS • After the presentations, as a class you will plan a practice session (with my support and supervision). Each student will be given several specific tasks. You will grow your own plant in the school garden and make a daily report on the development process of your plant. • After a month from the practice session, each student will write a reflection about the experience.
GROUP 1 PROCESS You will be researching the life cycle of a plant and name of a plant’s parts: • How many stages are there in the life cycle of a plant and what are they? • How many parts are there of a plant and what are their functions?

GROUP 2 PROCESS You will be researching the benefits of plants and different types of plants: • What are the benefits of plants to people’s lives? • How many types of plants are there in the earth and what are they?

GROUP 3 PROCESS You will be researching methods to grow plants: • How many methods are there to grow plants? • What do you need to grow different kinds of plant? • When is the best time to grow plants?

EVALUATION Presentation: You will present your information in an interesting and creative way. Your presentation will be graded according to a rubric. Here are some ideas, but you are not limited to these and you may use more than one: Powerpoint/Prezi Poster (pictures and captions only.) Skit/video A D-I-Y book, pamphlet, song, rap, etc. Digital Story Game (board game, jeopardy, quiz, etc. )
Evaluation (Practice session) Each student will be assigned several specific tasks. Some of these tasks may fall under the following categories: Set up and clean up the garden – ready for cultivation Prepare materials and tools Transport water Etc. A list of specific tasks will be given out separately.
conclusion Each student will need to write a reflection after completing the presentations, practice session and a month observing the growth of his/her plants. Your reflection should answer the following questions: What did you learn about plants that you found interesting? What did you enjoy about the practice session/presentation? What did you not enjoy (if anything)? What are your personal feelings about plants? Reflections will be submitted to the class blog and all students will be able to see what your thoughts are.
