  1. The Lordship of Jesus Christ For our citizenship is in heaven; whence also we wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ - Philippians 3:20 -

  2. The Lordship of Jesus • Many today speak of Jesus as their “Lord and Savior” without actually submitting to Jesus as their Lord (immoral music artists often thank Jesus during awards shows for being their “Lord and Savior”) • Others focus on Jesus as “Savior” and not on Jesus as “Lord”; but Jesus is both (Mt. 22:41-45)

  3. The Lordship of Jesus • “Lord Jesus” is found 115 times in the NT (KJV) • Jesus is “Lord” because he was God in the flesh (Rom. 1:3-4) • The lordship of Jesus was preached by Peter (Acts 2:36-38; 10:36,48) • The lordship of Jesus was preached by Paul (Acts 16:31-33)

  4. Lordship Involves Authority • “Lord” (Gr. kurios) means “having power or authority • Government/citizen relationship (Mk. 10:42) • Master/servant relationship (Lk. 14:26-23) • Husband/wife relationship (1 Pet. 3:1-6) • Jesus Christ/mankind relationship (Rev. 17:14; 19:16)

  5. Lordship Involves Authority • Jesus has authority to require our whole lives (Rom. 14:6-9) • Jesus has authority to judge us (1 Cor. 4:4) • Jesus has authority as Head over all the church (Eph. 1:22-23; 4:5) • Jesus has authority to issue commands (1 Thess. 4:1-2)

  6. Lordship Implies Obedience • If we truly accept Jesus’ lordship we must obey him (Mt. 7:21; Lk. 6:46) • If we truly preach Jesus’ lordship we must preach obedience to all of his commands (Mt. 28:18-20) • We do not have a right to change, ignore, or defy the Lord Jesus’ words! We do not have a right to turn to man’s word for our authority!

  7. Lordship & Modern Religion • Are modern preachers really preaching the lordship of Jesus when they say, “Receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior…”? • Why do so many neglect baptism (Mk. 16:16), the Lord’s supper (Lk. 22:19), etc.? • Talk about rebellion to authority!

  8. Jesus Is Lord • Let us faithfully obey his lordship (Acts 22:8-16; Rom. 10:9-10) • Let us remain true to his lordship (Acts 11:20-23) • Let us daily serve under his lordship (Acts 20:18-24, 35; 21:13-14) • Let us preach boldly his lordship (Acts 28:31)
