For more stubborn buildups that prove hard to remove with tooth brush and tooth paste, vinegar is highly recommended but precaution exist for those whore totally dislike the vinegar smell left after the cleaning. Lemon juice is efficient for less stubborn buildups and also leaves behind a more pleasant smell unlike the vinegar. These are not the only natural methods that can be used to clean the mouth guard.

  4. Other natural method of cleaning the mouth guard Though not that effective, as a method of how to clean a mouth guard, baking soda can also be used for this purpose. Baking soda has numerous applications but though not mostly used for the purpose of cleaning a mouth guard, it is still efficient if used less often and complimented with other methods.

  5. The procedure of using baking soda involves pouring it in water and mixing them in a bowl. The recommended reaction is that of 1 cup: 2 teaspoonfuls of water and baking soda respectively.

  6. The mixture should be allowed to dissolve and left overnight. Lastly the mouth guard should be rinsed with relatively warm water. Care should be taken when using brush paste to conduct the above procedure as can cause abrasions that will result to wear and tear of the mouth guard.

  7. Like any method used for cleaning the baking soda has it demerits which include; the existence of build up though not much toxic like the initial one prior to cleaning , which is not a good a sight at all.

Also baking soda is not that efficient unlike other natural methods it still leaves bacteria on the surface hence if it should not be used solely but complimented with other method for great results. The baking soda also make the mouth guard to stiffen and became tight hence may not be protective as before as some portions of the mouth will be left uncovered creating an opportunity for teeth to grind over each other.

  11. The anti bacterial soap helps to kill bacteria that are found on the surface of the mouth guard. This can be done before and after use of the mouth guard but enough cool water should be used to rinse the soap before it is stored or put back to the mouth. Bleach can also be used though caution should be taken as it can cause permanent teeth discoloration.
