Materials and method • The male MF1 Swiss albino mice ( 160 ) were separated into 4 groups (40 mice in each ) as following: • Group 1 : As normal food and water were provided ad libitum. • Group 2 : As control . Mice were daily orally administered with milk devoid of Aflatoxin ( 10 mg /0.1ml milk / day ) for 6 months. • Group 3 : Mice were daily orally administered with milk contaminated with Aflatoxin M1 ( 0.11 ng AFM1 /0.1ml milk/ day) for 6 months. • Group 4 : Mice were daily orally administered with milk contaminated with Aflatoxin M1 and Vitamin C ( 0.11 ng AFM1 + 0.50 mg Vit.C /0.1 ml milk / day ) for 6 months. • Neurotransmitters measurement: Dopamine ( DA ), norepinephrine ( NE ) and serotonin ( 5-HT ) were estimated and determined according to the method of Chang, 1964 modified by Ciarlone 1978, by spectroflorometric method ( Tyrner quantech Tm, Digital filter, Branstead Thermoline, Corporation, Asuvsidlary of Sybaon, International Company, U.S.A. ). Brain areas were dissected according to the method of Glowinski and Iversen, 1966, into 7 regions which are : Cerebellum, Pons plus medulla oblongata, Striatum, Cortex, Hypothalamus, Midbrain and Hippocampus.
INTRODUCTION • Aflatoxins are highly toxic compounds produced by certainfungi growing in a wide range of food and animal feedstuffs . Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), the most toxic one, is ingested by animals, and it is transformed into another hydroxylated product; aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), which is then secreted in the milk (Van Egmond, 1989). The toxicity of the later compound is lower than that of its parent compound. AFM1 is known for its hepatotoxic and carcinogenic effects ( IARC ,International Agency for Research on Cancer,1993 ). Unfortunately, AFM1 is relatively stable during milk pasteurisation and storage as well as during the preparation of various dairy products (Galvano et al., 1996)
