Advantages of being in indie music
E N D
Indie music is the short term for independent music which is a record label that produced independently. Its main purpose is to promote music inside and outside of the music industry. It brings the music makers to expose their music to those music lovers. Compared to other music labels, indie music does not have enough power and financial (operates without much fund) means to promote and distribute their music, but they still prefer to be on their label which it gives them more freedom.
Team building and close working environment If you are on an independent label, there are only a few people surrounds you since it was a smaller company which allow you to have more face-time with your team to discuss the strategy and execution of your music. This also allows you to develop a close relationship with people who are working with your records.
Contracts In this, your contract is more on artist-friendly that allows you to have a larger percentage of revenue compare to those major label companies. Music rights Signing in indie labels gives you the right with your music which means that you as the artist have the option to do what you like once the song has been recorded.
Music label trust Speaking of indie music labels, they do not pressure you (the artist) by the board of directors to sign a specific sounds or looks just for the success on charts. When you sign with them, they give you their trust that your brand will sell and work to promote you, not the image they create for you.
Closer to fans Almost every musician wants their fans to relate to them or interact with them rather than making money off of them. The closer you are to your fans, the more it becomes compelling and instead of forcing them to buy, they will have the initiative to support you (by buying your album).
As practically said, indie music is becoming popular and is booming. Many major labels embrace the indie method to achieve future growth as a company. Indie labels tend to build relationship or partnership with other small companies, either long term partnership or smaller contractual relationship for their distribution and publishing though they can’t afford too much production like large business or major labels can do, it just the understanding and determining what is more important to you as an artist.
