College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) • Exploratory Curriculum • Students will comprehend and apply concepts not memorize steps. • Emphasis on Problem Solving • Students will be engaged in learning and solving problems, not sitting and listening to me speak. Active learning in teams! • Homework will be quality problem solving questions with High Impact, not quantity drill type questions. • Supplemented with Traditional Direct Instruction
Parents • The more involved parents are in their students education, the more successful the student. Parent e-book licenses are now available! Parents may purchase a one-year e-book license of their student's book for $10 by calling CPM and using a credit card. See order form for a complete list of available one-year licenses. Contact CPM at (209) 745-2055. • Set the expectation that students WILL succeed in Mathematics this year! Students respond to having high expectations set for them. • Require that students attempt the homework. Students are graded on effort so as long as they try to do the homework they will receive credit. Homework • Homework is posted for the entire week on the white board and copied into student planners every Monday. • Homework Assignments may be accessed electronically at PowerSchool. • Homework will be assigned every school night with a few exceptions. Please have students spend 30-45 minutes on their Math homework. If students are struggling, have them attempt each problem and ask questions the next day in class. Please do not have them spending hours on Math homework each night.
Math Grading Scale Pre-Algebra Algebra Extra-Credit is not offered. Homework may be turned in 1 Day Late for ½ credit unless for an excused absence.
Positive Behavior Instructional Support Academics Behavior Notes Home / Students of the Week and Month Attendance School Spirit Awards Team Awards • OA “Over Achiever” Button. • Recognition for Short-term gains on Tests. (Stickers, Notes Home, Prizes) • Recognition for Long-Term Achievement on Standards and Curriculum. (Trophy, Honor Roll etc…)
Student Behavior Expectations • Students WILL BE respectful to staff and other students. • Learning and teaching time is CRITICAL. Students WILL stay on task. • Central = Academically, Personally, and Socially Responsible Students Intervention Verbal Warning Conference with Student (Note Home in Planner and/or Lunch Detention) Team Conference / Parent Conference (Consequences at Home) Administrative Intervention
