SRB Perl Portal • Pros • Web browser interface to SRB • No software installation needed • Very easy to use • Fairly easy to modify for your project’s needs • Cons • Just the basics of SRB • Not multi-threaded • Single file access (no recursive)
Step by Step • Connect • Go to: https://oly.sdsc.edu/ • Enter in Connection Parameters • Name: <username> (du?) • Password: 2006SRBclass • Click “Login” button
Step by Step 2. Explanations • Where you are: Main “welcome” page • Project area • Announcements • Grid Status information • Drop down Menus • Preferences • Click on Preferences • Click on “SRB Connection Parameters” • “SRB Data Grid Settings”, but where did they come from? • Project “hid” all the grid details, set the values in a database during account creation procedure.
Step by Step 3. Make test folder • Click on “Make Directory” • Enter: “test” into New Collection field • Click on “Create” button • Click on newly created “test” folder
Step by Step 4. Upload a file • Click on “Upload files” • Click on “Browse…” button • Look in: Desktop and select SRB-inQ.ppt • Click on the “Upload” button
Step by Step 5. Giving away permissions • Click on “permissions” next to SRB-inQ.ppt file • Look at what the current permissions are set to • Click on drop down for permissions to see all possible available options, leave as “add read” • Click on drop down for “who” to give permissions to, and select “Group: npaci” (remember that every domain is also a group) • Click on “submit” button • Notice that you can see who all the people are that are in the “npaci” group. If new users are added to the group they will be able to read your file.
Step by Step 6. Make some user defined Metadata • Click on “Meta Data” • In the “Name” field, enter: “Student” • In the “Value” field, enter: “your name” • Click the “Submit” button • Notice new “Meta Data Results”
Step by Step 7. Query some user defined Metadata • Under “Query Data Grid” in left field enter: “Student” • Select “=“ in drop down • Enter “Roman Olschanowsky” in right field • Click the “Submit” button • Notice the “Query Results”
Step by Step 8. Know any good comics? • Click on “Browse Files” • Change path in URL to “/home/Demo” hit enter • Click on “SRB-Tutorial” • Click on “comics” • Click on comic files that do not end with a “dash number” • Have Fun!
