  2. Do you remember using the verb IR to talk about where someone goes? • Ex. Yo voy a la biblioteca. I go to the library. • When you want to say what someone is going to do, use ir + a + (infinitive) • Ex. Yo voy a comer en la cafetería. I am going to eat in the cafeteria. Ir + a + (infinitive)

  3. Regular present Tense of -er, -ir verbs We learned how to conjugate verbs that end in –ar. The regular endings are: • -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an • Now we are going to learn how to conjuagte verbs that end in –er and –ir. • -er verbs have the same endings as –ir verbs except in the nosotros and vosotros forms.

Vender – to sell Yo vendo Nosotros(as) vendemos I sell We sell Tú vendes Vosotros (as) vendéis You (fam.) sell You all (fam.) sell Él /Ella/ Ud. vende Ellos (as)/ Uds. venden He/She sells, You (for.) sell They/You (for.) sell Notice that the endings for –er verbs are just like –ar verb endings but with the letter e in the place of a. -ar: -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an -er: -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en

Abrir – to open Yo abro Nosotros(as) abrimos I open We open Tú abres Vosotros (as) abrís You (fam.) open You all (fam.) open Él /Ella/ Ud. abre Ellos (as)/ Uds. abren He/She opens, You (for.) open They/You (for.) open Notice that the endings for –ir verbs are just like –er verb endings except the forms of nosotros and vosotros. -er: -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en -ir: -o, -es, -e, -imos, -ís, -en

  6. Verbs with irregular yo forms There are several verbs in Spanish that are regular in every form but the yo form. Two of these verbs are hacer and conocer. Oír is another verb with an irregular yo form, but the rest of the forms are also irregular.

Hacer – to make/to do Yo hago Nosotros(as) hacemos I make/do We make/do Tú haces Vosotros (as) hacéis You (fam.) make/do You all (fam.) make/do Él /Ella/ Ud. hace Ellos (as)/ Uds. hacen He/She makes/does, You (for.) make/do They/You (for.) make/do Notice that the endings for hacer are regular but the yo form ends in -go. There are several verbs that are normal but where the yo form ends in –go. Some of them are: Poner – to put/place, Salir – to leave/to go out, Traer – to bring (traigo), Caer – to fall (caigo)

Conocer – to know, to be familiar with (person, place) Yo conozco Nosotros(as) conocemos I know We know Tú conoces Vosotros (as) conocéis You (fam.) know You all (fam.) know Él /Ella/ Ud. conoce Ellos (as)/ Uds. conocen He/She knows, You (for.) know They/You (for.) know When using conocer, you will use the personal a between the verb form and the person. You do not use the a when conocer is followed by a place. Ella conoce a Ana. She knows Ana. Ellos conocen Madrid. They know Madrid.

  9. Oír – To hear Like hacer and conocer, oír has an irregular yo form. Also, some of the forms have a spell change (i – y). Also the nosotros and vosotros forms have an accent on the i.
