The Eugene J. McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement, created in honor of the late Senator and St. John's graduate, fosters dialogue and involvement regarding politics, values, and public policy. The McCarthy Center facilitates opportunities for creative and integrated learning through programming and experiential learning on and off campus.

Study Tours Study tours bring students face-to-face with key players and organizations working on current policy issues like green urban planning, immigration, and education. Past study tours have included trips to Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, and the Twin Cities.
Mentor Program CSB/SJU students develop networking skills and opportunities to develop and expand professional contacts within the fields of law, public policy, lobbying, public relations and politics. A program highlight is the annual ‘Polidazzle’ reception with students, alums and mentors in the Twin Cities.
John Brandl Scholarship The John Brandl Scholars program celebrates Dr. Brandl’s lifelong commitment to mentorship and scholarship in higher education, public policy and politics. The endowment funds summer public policy internships. These internships range from local to international policy arenas, reflecting Dr. Brandl’s diverse career and CSB/SJU’s commitment to ethical leadership and the common good.
Volunteer with the McCarthy Center The McCarthy Center welcomes everyone's involvement in our on campus events and programming. There are a number of ways in which you can assist the McCarthy Center. Professorships Dan and Katharine Whalen established the Joseph P. Farry Professorship at Saint John's University in 2003 and the Edward L. Henry Professorship at Saint John's University in 2005. Endowed professorships have long been recognized as both a hallmark of academic quality and a means by which a university honors its most esteemed scholars and teachers. Professorships are reserved for scholars of national stature, with highly distinguished records of teaching, research and publication. They constitute a time-honored way to recruit or retain scholars with exceptional records of achievement.
Professorships Dr. Louis Johnston is associate professor of Economics and holds the Joseph P. Farry Professorship at Saint John's University. Dr. Matthew J. Lindstrom is the Edward L. Henry Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Eugene J. McCarthy Center.
