Tuesday July 22, 2003 a SJOK production (Schmidt, Johansson, Oppenheimer, and Källberg) Welcome To The XXIII ICPEAC The ICPEAC local organizing committee welcomes you all warmly to Stockholm for the ICPEAC 2003. It is our hope that every delegate and accompanying person will have an enjoyable fruitful meeting, where many ideas will be exchanged. This daily newsletter serves to provide you with the latest updated practical information such as program changes, social events, weather etc... Poster Information: Time to put up your Poster The poster sessions are in the afternoon 16:00-18:00. You can put up your poster from 10:00 and you have to remove it again by 8:45 on the following day. Vote for the Poster of the Day!! Visit the J. Phys. B publisher present at the poster sessions and hand in your voting form for the best poster of the day. Winners will be announced on the following day and will receive a prize. Poster hall Regulation: Drinks (of any kind) are strictly forbidden in the poster hall! Beer forecast for ICPEAC §1 Good news: The ’Brown Shack’ at the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory is open during all poster sessions. §2 Bad news: It would be illegal to sell beer from there. §3 Good news: You will get one beer each for free every day. You just have to remember to bring your beer ticket. §4 Bad news: When you find that you are still thirsty after your first beer and want to buy another one, we have to refer to §2, but soft drinks are ad libitum. CITY HALL RECEPTION Wednesday July 23, 7:00 pm Getting there: Take the subway to T-Centralen.Follow the signs Centralstationen/Cityterminalen.After the gates pass up through exit Vasagatan/Tegelbacken, to the left.Walk over the road in front, Vasagatan.Turn left and follow the side walk, Centralstation is now on your right.After passing three roads, you reach a fence and must turn right.After 100 meters you will see a red brick building with a golden spire, the City Hall. Friendly ICPEAC guides with yellow badges will help you find your way on this 10 min walk!Please wear your own badge to be identified as an ICPEAC delegate. The XXIII ICPEAC opens Today the ICPEAC 2003 starts for real, but already yesterday the first social event, the welcome reception in Aula Magna, took place. A 0’th issue of the ‘ICPEAC NEWS’ with some practical information was published yesterday. As a service to those of you who arrived today, that issue is printed on the back side of today’s issue. Taking the bus or the Subway (’Tunnelbanan’)? Save Money: Buy the special congress card at the ICPEAC registration desk. This card is valid for all city buses, the subway, and local trains in the Greater Stockholm Area for 24 hours: 40 SEK. (48 h card: 80 SEK). Weather Forecast: Wednesday: Mostly sunny and about 24 ºC. ICPEAC NEWS The XXIII Bulletin No. 3. Friday July 25, 2003 Edited by SJOK REMEMBER!! Don’t forget your Ticket for the Conference Dinner Sunday July 27. An evening at ‘Skansen’ starting at 17:45 with welcome drinks at the MAIN ENTRANCE!! The detailed program of the evening can be found in the program book. Here two practical matters. Weather: While the dinner itself is indoor, most of the other activities at Skansen are outdoor, so be prepared! Getting there: From the City center: Take bus no. 47 to its final stop (15 min travel time, 10 min intervals). From the University: Take the Subway to ’Tekniska Högskolan’, leave that station by walking in the direction of the train you came on and keep right. When you exit you are very close to a bus stop. Take bus 44 to its final stop (15 min travel time, 10 min intervals). 3 tricks to avoid the crowded buses when 700 icpeac’ers are going at the same time! 1. Come early! Skansen is really nice and you get in any time on Sunday when showing your dinner ticket. 2. Take the ferry from ‘Slussen’ (on the Subway’s Red Line) or the tram from ‘Nybroplan’. 3. We wish you all a pleasant last day at this meeting and a safe trip home. We are looking forward to meeting you all at coming international conferences, where somebody else has to do all the work!!
