  2. Why we train others in Salford… • Our overarching framework • Pooled budget • Section 75 Partnership Agreement • Commissioning strategy • Integrated Management Structure • Strong Partnership Board • Priority People • Psychology focusing on building capacity and capability.

  3. Contact with the IAPT team • CBT eligibility within Salford LD Team – directing people with LD to IAPT/ MH if appropriate. • Initial consultations/ joint visits with high intensity IAPT colleagues. • Meetings with low/ high intensity IAPT managers. • Discussion of training needs • Who/ profession? How many? • What package would we use: • Dave Dagnam/ 1 day package/ our own? • Development of own training day for high intensity IAPT.

  4. Developing a 1-day training package • Previous knowledge. • LD definitions/ terminology, characteristics, inequalities/ values. • Reasonable adjustments/ more than LD/ fear of opening ‘floodgates’. • Practical exercises e.g. adaptations you might make.

  5. Developing a 1-day training package • CBT eligibility – main concepts, tools. • Challenges. • Vocabulary and language • The value of using pictures e.g. bike/ frog • Therapeutic alliance • Understanding emotions • Practicalities • Resources • Reflections.

  6. Hopes for the future… • Carry out the training! 24.06.13. • Evaluation • using D. Dagnam’s outcome measures. • Low intensity IAPT training? • Increased referrals to mainstream – effectiveness of this. • More consultations to aid colleagues in IAPT. • Ongoing liaison with mainstream IAPT/ MH services.
