Fan: Fanatic or Fancy?A stalker pursuing a football player; a film lover that has every movie of their star; a groupie with backstage tickets to every concert of their favorite rock band – is a fan fanatical or does he or she just fancy the famous? They say you’re not famous until you’re asked to sign your autograph on a cigarette pack or on the arm of a fan that swears they’ll never wash again! Superstars like lead male or female singers or singer wanted, actors or actresses, sports professionals and politicians attract a following of people because of their various talents. Art, sports and leadership are all inspirational to everyday people. Not to say that celebrities are not everyday people – but they do lead a life constantly in the public eye, and most of them try to keep a squeaky clean profile at all times for the public to consistently believe and support them through their lows and highs of success.Press, fans, photographers and the teams watch their every move to write about, criticize as well as protect and support superstars. Female Singers reason people find celebrities fascinating is because they recognize how much talent, hard work, training and setbacks these phenomenal people have had and gone through to be successful and at the top of their game. They are icons. From the songs written, sung and performed to the way a number one tennis player wins another championship makes spectators jump to their feet, dance, scream, shout, sing-a-long and cry. Music is an artistic medium. Music jobs that have this kind of affect require unique talents and skills – way above average. Whilst tennis is technical talent; based on fitness strength, skill and game intelligence. A fan does not become crazy about a musician or tennis player until that person does or has something that no other artist has – be it their ability to do somersaults whilst playing the guitar or a serve at 160 mph, respectively. The record label wants to create a frenzy of screaming crowds, because that equates financially into sell-out tours, radio airplay domination and record sales – just like a tennis coach ensures his player is fit, focused and headstrong enough to win and create a following of supporters at the tournaments. To have a fan base or to be a superstar, that wanted drummer, bass player wanted or senator has to have a wow-factor (charm, talent, training, large bank balance, intelligence, people skills and stamina to reach the top as well as maintain it). Sometimes it is a good image, sometimes it’s a bad image – but everyday people relate to both depending on what kind of people they are and what tickles their fancy. What fans sometimes fail to realize is that superstars are actually ‘normal’ people. They go to school, sometimes have further education sometimes not. They struggle and fight so hard just to live their dreams and then when they finally make it, they have to work ten times harder to maintain their status and money flow by constantly raising their game. They get married, they get divorced, they have children, and they have dysfunctional families. At some point they fail, at some point they disappoint everyone and at some point they are even fired.Fans sometimes do cross the lines unfortunately, Music Jobs when they become disrespectful to a megastar by invading their space through stalking and over-obsessive and threatening letters. Some fans also can be ‘haters’ which is not pleasant for any star to experience or read about – but with superstardom this is part of the territory, so stars are accustomed to ignoring such negativity and are also protected by their teams and bodyguards from any serious causes of action such as violence and bad press. In some serious instances, famous have been assassinated. For the rest of their families, friends, and fan base to witness such horror is very, very sad for them to suffer such unnecessary pain. Other ways that spectators alike have been affected are through stadium stampedes from over-crowding and pushing. Press also can be very damaging if they dislike someone on the brink of fame or already famous that has landed in a scandalous affair – the press often have no mercy and expose the person in the worst light possible with some untruthful or bent facts which can mark the star for the rest of their career. For a fan to go from fancy to fanatical would be to assume that the person has lost control and a complete sense of reality. As much as any person is an icon or admired for their amazing abilities in whatever they do – the truth is that they are human and have only become so good at what they do from sheer hard work 24/7. Of course such exhilaration from a winning team or sensational song or heart-wrenching drama based on true-life events can send even the most normal person’s adrenaline soaring, causing them to over-step the mark. At large concerts and stadiums, crowds also consume alcohol and some recreational drugs, which a lot of the time is the source of the problem or aids to making the frenzy even more dramatic.Familiarity breeds contempt is good advice to note whilst being famous, a superstar really does have to isolate and keep their distance to keep things under wraps and to also have a little bit of peace and quiet. A lot of superstars keep their private life locked away from the press in order to protect them from the wrong kind of exposure and media attention. Over the top press releases at high-speed volumes is not always a healthy choice when publicizing and building up momentum for new releases and upcoming games or presidency votes – however it is part of the deal. In order for a star to keep grounded, sane and polite, their teams help by handling the media so that the stars can concentrate on their work. Their teams often manage and sift out the ugly side of exposure so that the star can keep a smile on their face! However, there are instances of superstars losing their temper with photographers, press and fans – this normally happens when they have not had a break and permanently been in the headlines where the pressure has become too much.Needless to say, without a passionate fan base a superstar is not a superstar – and it does come down to money. Fans pay large sums to attend concerts and buy merchandise, records and DVDs. The importance of keeping your fans is part of the package being famous. So stars have to be super strong to rise above anything and everything. They have to people who know who they are, have the confidence to hold their heads high and courage to bounce back from any obstacle along the way, to show the world that nothing will stop them from living their dream and sharing their talent from the heights of heaven. That’s the very reason why fans fall in love and/or become obsessed; superstars are an inspiration.
