INTRODUCTION Degree programme in film & animation (FA): • “Learning by doing” • Involves hands-on production Main goals: • To produce creative works • To fulfill production responsibilities

Serial Transfer “team performs a task and then repeats the task in a different context.” Serial Transfer in FA Department : • revision • creation of new plans Lakomski (2004)

SERIAL TRANSFER Advantages: • Reduce time and energy - reinventing cycle • Prevent mistakes being repeated • Allow corrections Limitations: • Lack of manpower • Shifting of staff

Strategic Transfer “complex knowledge is transferred from one team to another where the teams may be separated by both time and space ” Strategic Transfer in FA Department : • Big event e.g. CAADRIA – involve faculty and MMU as whole Lakomski (2004)
STRATEGIC TRANSFER Advantages: • Opportunity to meet intellects worldwide • Face-to-face interaction • Provide room for discussions Limitations: • High costs • Less time for making decision • Not much room for choice
Expert Transfer “transfer of explicit knowledge about a task that may be done only infrequently ” Expert Transfer in FA Department : • Yahoogroups and online forum – problem solving resource Lakomski (2004)
EXPERT TRANSFER Advantages: • Easier, faster and inexpensive • Plenty of Yahoogroups and Online Forum available Limitations: • Questions posted remain unanswered • Delay in getting the answer/solutions
RECOMMENDATIONS • Emphasize face-to-face meeting • Conducive environment • Work recognition • Acknowledgement
CONCLUSION • Working together (team) • Encourage - confidence, commitment and communication • Effective knowledge transfer - shorten project time • Reduce cost
