mira – mediterraneanresearch and coordinationactionMAIN OBJECTIVE: TO IMPROVE S&T COOPERATION IN EURO-MED AREA THROUGH 1. Creating a dialogue platform for the discussion between relevant stakeholders to improve the S&T cooperation; 2. Addressing training activities to improve the quality of the participation & management of the partners of FP7 from the MPC; 3. Organizing meetings to monitor and discuss the content of the Thematic priorities of FP7; 4. Creating an Observatory of the EU-MPC S&T cooperation, which will agree indicators for the monitoring of RTD cooperation activities; 5. Creating networks of research institutions and technological transfer services of euro-med Countries to spur the development of the Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Space.
MIRA WP3 ObjeCtives 1) Improve the quality of MPC participation in the FP by increasing capacities and level of understanding of the administrative and technical issues related to the handling of FP projects. 2) Support the development of Information Points for spurring the participation of MPC in the FP. Main actions: Training & Networking

WP3 - Task 1. Actual IP structures D17 - ASSESSMENT on the basis of a Questionnaire sent to all MPC-IP. Main parts of the assessment: 1. General considerations based on the replies to the Questionnaires. 2. Specific comments for every IP that participated in the survey. 3. Condensed raw data from the received Questionnaires.

Actual IP structures Sustainability (Costs/Benefits) Financing(from Government, EC, other) Size Performance Role Mission etc. ...of IPs Example: Among the parameters for size: • The size of the scientific community of the country/its potential to participate in the FP. • The organizational model of the IP: if everything has to be organized centrally or if a network of (national) contact points has been set up (then the central CP plays mainly a coordinating role and needs fewer but also more qualified staff.)

Percentage (%) of the estimated country’s research community. B1. Number of events organized annually and in total. B2. Number of researchers that attended the events. C1. Number of visitors of the IP. C2. Number of visitors of the web site. C3. Number of contacts by email. D1. Number of proposals submitted to the FP from the country. D2. Number of funded proposals with that country’s participation and total amount of funding.

Mission/location/financing: Informing, awareness/ Advising, training/ Providing feedback / Provide statistics? What kind of statistics? Are there any national incentives to encourage participation to the FP? (Yes/No) If yes, explain… / Are there any other organizations in your country providing information about FP? If yes, please list them. IP means: • Please describe your infrastructure situation: Is your ICPC CP (IP) well equipped (PC, printers, internet , fax, phone, international line, photocopy, etc )? • Is it easily accessible to visitors (near universities, location in the city center)? • Day to day assistance to FP participants: please indicate the frequency of using: phone, e-mail, meetings.

TRAINING SEMINAR OF EXPERTS ON: AN INFORMATION POINT FOR FP7 IN PALESTINENicosia, Cyprus - 23-28 November 2008 Specific objectives and expected results The seminar was aimed at training 6-7 experts from Palestine who will be able to: INFORM Favour knowledge of EU opportunities by means of Internet, organisation of events, meetings on specific calls for proposals or thematic sectors. Assist/train Support scientific community to submit projects proposals that could be co-financed by European Commission . PROVIDE FEEDBACK Draft statistics on issues that could be useful to: euro-med scientific community, national authorities and also to the Monitoring Committee such as: participation to the events organised by IP; number of national participations in co-financed projects, thematic sector in which there are more projects submitted /financed; average of funds per project, and so on. fAVOUR NETWORKING WITH OTHER Ip

Connecting actions to integrate the IP-MPC network with the NCP-EU network (Twining) Proposal of activities by ASRT (taking into account the budget constraints) : • Gathering and Integrate IP-MPC Contacts data • Integrate NCP-EU Network contacts data • Preparing EU NCP Network Projects list and contacts • Connecting IP MPC and NCP EU Network • Proposing to NCP Networks/coordinators of the NCP Networks projects to includes the IP MPCs contacts data in their e-mailing list inviting them to brokerage events, information days, etc…, and also check the possibility for IP MPC to benefit from the NCP Network projects activities related to third countries if any.
