Infinitives Infinitives in Spanish, though, don’t have a separate word like “to” in front of them. Spanish infinitives are only one word, and always end in -ar, -er, or -ir: Nadar Leer Escribir
Infinitives are used after words or expressions like: Me gusta – I like Me gusta comer. – I like to eat. No me gusta – I don’t like No me gusta bailar. – I don’t like to dance. Puedo – I can Puedo cantar. – I can sing. Tengo que – I have to Tengo que estudiar. – I have to study. Necesito – I need Necesito escribir. – I need to write. Quiero – I want Quiero jugar al tenis. – I want to play tennis. I want to go to school - Tengo que ir a la escuela.
