1. INTERNATIONAL TRADE ISSUES: - Britain closed many ports - Britain placed high tariffs on imports and exports 2. TRADE PROBLEMS WITH STATES: - Difficult trading crossing state lines 3. WAR DEBTS: - Struggled to collect taxes - Some states couldn’t afford to pay back debts
4. PRINTING MONEY: - States began printing large amounts of paper money - This resulted in INFLATION! 5. INFLATION: - WHEN COSTS OF GOODS GO UP AND THE VALUE OF THE DOLLAR GOES DOWN 6. DEPRESSION: - LOSS OF TRADE WITH BRITIAN COMBINED WITH INFLATION CREATED A LOW ECONOMIC DEPRESSION AND UNEMPLOYMENT
7. REBELLION: - Government was SO WEAK! - SHAYS’ REBELLION - CONGRESS COULD DO LITTLE TO PUT THIS REBELLION DOWN! - THIS PROVED THAT OUR GOVERNMENT WAS WEAK UNDER THE ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION
