1. Choose 2 things you think are really important to thank God for. Explain why they are important. 2. Explain how having these things could be a matter of luck. **Which thing is not really a matter of luck at all, but purely down to God’s love & goodness? Why? Often, people want to thank God especially for things that they feel are a matter of luck, and could easily be lost. • Physical health & wellbeing • Peace: to go about your daily life freely & without stress • Protection from disasters: losing your family, money, home, causing a serious accident, being a victim of crime, making wrong decisions. • Having a loving, safe family and home to belong to • Having an education. Having opportunities, being able to use and develop your talents : having a hope for the future. • Having God in your life. Having joy & hope & trust, whatever happens
Describe 3 ways we give thanks to God when we go to Mass. The Priest offers up Jesus to God, as the perfect gift: Why is Jesus the best “thank you” present we can give to God? ** What does the word “Eucharist” mean? Is it a good word for what the mass is mostly about? (offering up Jesus to God in “thanksgiving”)? Often, people want to thank God especially for things that they feel they are lucky to have. But also, we feel we owe it to give thanks to God. What do people do at Mass to show thanksgiving? How? Guess from what the people are doing in the pictures.
Subtitle “Offertory Procession”. • Draw a line of 4 stick people going up to the priest at the altar. • The first one is bringing up bread and wine. Draw that in. • Label the other 3 with your own personal offering to God: • an achievement, • a sacrifice you made (gave up something for someone/ something) • a help you offered. The Offertory Procession is when people bring up the “gifts” of bread and wine. But these gifts ALSO symbolise our work, our daily sacrifices and struggle, offered to God – just like the bread and wine is the work of human hands, offered to God.
Thank you Lord for this Eucharist: For the Word proclaimed; For the priest; For the people gathered; For the sacrifice of Your body and blood. May it give me strength to do Your will And lead me to life everlasting. Amen. Write your own prayer of thanksgiving to say after receiving Holy Communion. Make it into a Mass card/ bookmark.
