Celebrating the Creativity and Growth in Waco: Marketing & Advertising the City of Waco February 1, 2019
The story – Part 1 • A sleepy little town in the heart of Texas. Texans know it for Baylor University and its quirky museums, but outside of Texas, it’s not so well known. About 550,000 people visit its attractions each year. Some people remember it for the 1993 tragedy at the Branch Davidian compound a few miles outside of town.
The story – Part 2 • Then… a show called Fixer Upper catches the nation’s imagination. It’s one of the top rated shows on all of cable TV, and its stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines, love this little town. • The Gaines open a retail shop downtown near some rusty cottonseed silos, and within 3 years, 1.6 million people are visiting annually.
Hotel Growth • Current hotel rooms: ~4,000 • Additional rooms: 1,497 • Growth: 37%
