  1. Derailment ICE 88526. April 200821:05 hrs - Landrückentunnel –

  2. Occurence: • On 26. April 2008, Intercity Express Train (ICE) 885 collided with sheep after the entrance to the Landrückentunnel. • The sheep were at the north portal of the tunnel. • By the collision the ICE with the first bogie was derailed • The train driver operates the quick-acting brake • The train stopped after 1200 m. • The collision occurred at 220 km/h.

  4. ICE 885 (Intercity Express) • motor-coach train 111 - the first design series • motor coach 401 511 (in front) • 12 middle-coaches • motor coach 401 011 (behind) • speed: 220 km/h • direction of train: Hannover- Würzburg

  5. Consequences • 19 passengers were injured, including four moderate. • 10 of the 12 middle coaches and both motor coaches of the 14-piece train were derailed.

  6. Consequence • motor coach 401 511 • (derailed)

  7. Consequence • coaches 1 + 2 • (were not derailed)

  8. Consequence • coaches 3 - 12 • (derailed)
