  7. But I do not teach 7th Grade! • 6th grade teachers can help prepare students by also practicing Explore type questions in their instruction twice a month.

  8. But I do not teach 7th Grade! • 8th grade teachers do not have much of a role in the preparation of the Explore test , since the test is taken at the very beginning of the students 8th grade year. • However, 8th grade teachers can help by announcing the upcoming test, reviewing test format and even practicing some sample test questions at the beginning of the year. • After the test 8th grade teachers need to Review the scores and complete ILP Interventions for those who did not meet Benchmark scores.

  9. K-PREP ADMINISTRATION 2011-2012 ITEM TYPES PROVIDED BY PEARSON

  10. K-PREP BLUEPRINT The Blueprint has dual purposes. It provides targets for test development and information to teachers as they make instructional decisions. BLUE PRINT Link

  11. Accountability Rule forNext-Generation Learners • Students enrolled a full academic year, any 100 instructional days, shall be included in calculations for Achievement, Gap, Growth and College/Career Readiness.

  12. TEST WINDOW • Senate Bill 1 established a five-day test window in the last 14 (instructional) days of a district’s calendar. • Districts must set a five-day test window for each grade span (elementary and middle). • Five-days must be consecutive. Assessment Window - April 24th- May 11th

  13. TEST SCHEDULE • Make-up testing is allowed during the five-day schedule and before materials are shipped a week after the close of the window. Assessment Window - April 24th- May 11th

  14. K-PREP ADMINISTRATION • TIME • The K-PREP assessments (blended NRT/CRT) are timed tests. • Extended time is allowed only for students with specific educational plans (IEPs, 504 Plans or PSPs).

  15. TIME • Each content area test is divided into multiple parts(i.e., one, two or three parts). • Each part is a separate test session. • Proctors must stop at the end of each part for a break. • Breaks may be short (i.e., stand and stretch) or long (i.e., lunch) with appropriate monitoring.

  16. TIMES

  17. PRACTICE TIME TEST IN CLASS!!! • Teachers it is imperative that we are practicing timed test in our classrooms! • Example: If students get 30 minutes on the part A reading test for 30 MC , then practice this format in your classes!

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD STUDENTS TAKE ON EACH SHORT ANSWER? WHEN YOU PRACTICE SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS, HOW MUCH TIME ARE YOU ALLOWING?

  19. CLASSROOM TEST DESIGN • Time Appropriately • Allow approx. 1 minute per multiple choice item. • Allow approx 3-10 minutes for each short answer. • Allow 10-15 minutes for each Extended Response item.
