Fairy Tales A Fairy Taleis an imaginative narrative about make believe characters such as fairies, elves, giant, and trolls. Most fairy tales have characters that are from royalty (princess, prince etc). Many fairy tales begin with the words “once upon a time” and end with the words “And they lived happily ever after”
Why is it important to know structural characteristics of a fairytale? It will help us to become readers by strengthening our comprehension.
Read the text. • Ask yourself, “does the story begin with once upon a time, does it have royal characters, and does it end with they lived happily ever after” • If it does, then the story is a fairy tale. Once upon a time there lived an evil witch who was very conceited. She wanted to be the most beautiful person in the village. However there was a princess who more beautiful than the witch. Therefore the witch casted a spell upon the young princess which caused her to fall into a deep sleep. Fortunately a handsome prince heard of the sleeping beauty and went to her castle. When he saw her feel deep in love with her and kissed her. His kiss awakened the princess and they lived happily ever after. .
