  2. Abscond • (v.) to run off and hide • Hint: the student was absent when he absconded from school

  3. Sentence • The thief absconded with a fortune in diamonds; the police are looking for anyone meeting his description.

  9. Sentence • Painting the living room was an arduous task; it took almost 8 hours.

  10. Auspicious • (adj.) favorable, fortunate • Hint: An auspicious event is awesome

  11. Sentence • When a bride wakes up to sunshine on her wedding day, she may consider it an auspicious sign.

  12. Biased • (adj.) favoring one side unduly, prejudiced

  13. Sentence • A juror must not be biased when listening to the evidence.

  14. Daunt • (v.) to overcome with fear, intimidate

  15. Sentence • Moving and entering a new school is enough to daunt even the most dedicated of students.

  16. Disentangle • (v.) to free from tangles or complications • Hint: Dis= out Tangle= a knot so disentangle is get out of a knot

  17. Sentence • If you tell lies, the best way to disentangle yourself is to tell the truth and apologize.

  18. Fated • (adj.) Determined in advance by destiny or fortune

  19. Sentence • When I go to see a romantic comedy, I know that the main characters are fated to fall in love.

  20. Hoodwink • (v.) to mislead by a trick, deceive • Hint: to pull a hood over someone’s eyes so they can’t see what you are doing

  21. Sentence • My friend was hoodwinked when she purchased a handbag on the street in New York City. It was falsely labeled with the Gucci name.
