PARIS21's work programme from 2009-2010 aims to develop a culture of evidence-based policy making and implementation to improve governance and reduce poverty. The programme includes assistance to countries in designing, implementing, and monitoring National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDSs), advocacy efforts at global and country levels, partnership energizing, reporting on NSDS progress, conducting studies, and convening task teams. PARIS21 provides support through facilitation of donor coordination and collaboration, advocacy strategies, reporting support, peer reviews, and funding requests.

2009-2010: the continuity Main goal remains: • “to develop a culture of evidence-based policy making and implementation serving to improve governance and government effectiveness in reducing poverty, achieving the MDGs” Focusing at country level: • Main aim is still to assist low-income countries to design, implement and monitor NSDSs.
Structure of the work programme Five axes: Assistance to countries on implementation of NSDS through “regional programmes” Developing the tools for advocating at global and country levels Energising the partnership Reporting on NSDS progress and helping countries to report on statistical development Conducting studies and convening task teams
How PARIS21 will provide support to countries: • Facilitation of donor support, co-ordination and collaboration • Advocacy: short-term (booklets) or long-term (advocacy strategy at national level) • Reporting: supporting on design and implementation of statistical development reporting at national level • Facilitation of peer reviews process • Support on funding requests
New activities in 2009-2010 • Country-based programme in Asia and specific issue of small states and islands addressed • National strategies on advocacy and reporting on statistical development • PRESS as a standard PARIS21 activity • Global report on statistical development • Consortium • Tracking progress of partnership (cf. decision 2) • Establishment of a new Task team on Sub-national statistics (cf. decision 3)
