Agriculture Workgroup May 27, 2010 Meeting Recommendations
AgWG Recommendations • Approval of AgWG meeting minutes delayed until after lunch. (9:40) Approved (1:10) • Legume N fixation credit for alfalfa is not currently listed on the ftp website. Chris will add the information. (10:21) • Mark will contact land grants to develop recommendation (email) and will provide to the AgWG before implementation into the model. (10:21) • Provide actual model results to the AgWG demonstrate the loss of nutrients with NM and Non-NM application rates. Chris will provide this information to the workgroup when available. (11:02) • Provide county examples of model runs versus the watershed wide results. Chris will provide when available. (11:02) • What model modifications may or may not be included in the TMDL allocation of loads (NSSB 2.2) for July 1. Ask for clarification from EPA this afternoon during the meeting today. (11:19)
AgWG Recommendations • E-3 Recommendations: AgWG members should discuss their opinions with state representatives on WQGIT • Pasture Vegetation Cover • There should be a difference between vegetative cover of pasture and degraded stream corridors • The difference should be 12% reduction of vegetative cover from the pasture vegetative cover estimates.
AgWG Recommendations • Try to provide model run data to questions are applied to the AgWG. • Cover Crops panel- move forward with July due date • Traditional and commodity • Program targeted efficiencies • CNT panel- considering panel • Precision Agriculture/Advanced NM- panel • Funding requested to hold partnership discussions for defining the area of interest • Interest in Ammonia Emissions and Vegetative Filters not addressed in the MAWP BMP Report: address to state representatives on WQGIT • Interest in recommendations to use annual NASS data for yields vs. Agricultural Census data. Addressed to WQGIT but not accepted for implementation at this time
