Organizational Goals Per our Bylaws: Dedicated to the improvement of clinical practice Enhancement of communication between professionals Promotion of scientific inquiry Advancement of education for benefit of healthcare professionals and the public
A Need Identified When visiting Cardiac Rehabilitation programs across the region as a component of her new job, Kathleen Rausch, UPCRA member, noted that most of the smaller UPCRA programs: • Are one-man operations • Have had staff turnover • Personnel hold multiple hospital roles, ie, QA manager, DON, OB director, etc
A Need Identified • New personnel at these facilities have had minimal training to their CR/PR position • Small hospitals unable or unwilling to finance education to attain this training
Proposal • Kathleen Rausch wrote an application to AACVPR for a grant to meet this need. • Goal: provide accessible, inexpensive opportunities for education for Cardiopulmonary Rehab personnel in UPCRA region • Propose to offer 12 monthly teleconferences/videoconferences to all CR/PR professionals for a $25 fee • Fee is waived for any site with an UPCRA member
Proposal AACVPR approved the grant application!
Action Plan • Together with the UPCRA Education Committee, organize a schedule of meetings to present topics and issues relevant to current cardiopulmonary rehabilitation practice
Budget • Printing of brochures -- $200 for typesetting. (Printing and paper supplied by UPCRA Education Committee) • Mailing Costs -- $100 • Quest: $.08/minute/line - $4.80 per hour per line. • Speaker honorarium • Active UPCRA leaders: gratis • AACVPR leaders: $100/session
Marketing • Power points and handouts are available via UPCRA website and emailed in advance to all members
Topics • Basic Exercise Physiology • Exercise Prescription and Progression • Guidelines for Exercising Coronary patients with Comorbidities • Phase III programming • Administrative Policies and Procedures • Patient Education 101 • Impact of Stress on Patients • Outcomes Measurement and Interpretation
Programming Audio presentations are offered monthly – 3rd Thursday of the month 12-1pm CT. Participants dial access code to enter audio presentation. Arranged through phone company – Quest. Members can follow power point presentation on their PC’s or have a hard copy of presentation to follow.
Participation • From our charges for teleconferences, estimate approximately 20 sites participate each month with anywhere from 1-5 attendees per site.
Evaluation • November 1, 2007 survey emailed to all UPCRA members inquiring to their participation and evaluation of the program.
What’s next • Based on results of evaluation, may consider continue • Frequency? • Cost? • Increase participation - ???? • Look at times/days presentations are offered. • Recording presentation for viewing at a more convenient time?
