How did Bothell come to be? • Populated by the Sammammish Tribe until 1870’s • 1870 ColombusGreeleaf and George Wilson built homes, followed by 8 families in next 6 years • 1876 George Brackett (Canadian) built logging camp • Now Brackett’s Landing • 1885 Sold 80 acres to David Bothell (Pennsylvanian) • First postmaster (Gerhard Erickson) bought property in 1888 and named town

How did Bothell come to be? • Incorporated in 1909 • Logging and Boating transportation town • Shortly after, Army Corp of Engineers dredged and straightened the River • 1917 Lake Washington Lowered, boat traffic ended, logging stopped • Brick road built to Seattle and Bothell became farming town

  9. How did Bothell come to be? • Post WWII: • Better highways built and suburban development • Pop. of 1,000 in 1950 • Now: • Much of employment in high technology sectors • Biotechnology and software • Cascadia and branch campus of UW (UWB)

Future Plans • Council Member Bill Evans currently rallying for Community Center • swimming pools, gymnasiums, current fitness facilities, climbing rock, indoor playground, dance studio, arts & crafts areas designed for the entire family as well as individual age groups • Bothell Landing • Turning into large park with shopping, dining, family activities over the next 10 years
