Where is it? The Alps are a mountain range in the middle of Europe, straddling 8 countries including Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy. They stretch for 1200 miles. The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4810 metres. Switzerland is at the heart of the Alps and is a landlocked country, which means it has no access to the sea. Switzerland is quite a small country, only 350 kilometres long and about 220 kilometres wide. The highest mountain in Switzerland is Monte Rosa, at 4634 metres.
Switzerland has a landscape of high mountains, which are always covered in snow. The mountains are filled with Glaciers, which are large fields of ice. It also has deep valleys ,with many lakes. In Alpine meadows you might see white flowers called Edelweiss What is the landscape like? • and cute mountain goats called Ibex.
How can you get there? There are many ways of getting to Switzerland. The easiest is to go by plane. The flight is only about one and a half hours. You can drive to Switzerland too, but that take a lot longer. It took us about 24 hours to drive there. If you go by car, you can catch a ferry across the English Channel Or you can take a train under the Channel Tunnel
What do the people do? People go to Switzerland to see the mountains. In winter you can ski or snowboard ..or ice skate In summer you can paraglide, but I have never tried it!
What are the reasons for its special character? There are lots of special things about Switzerland, like its lovely views that look out on the deep valleys. The snow makes it good for winter sports. You can take a ride in the sky on one of there cable cars or through the tunnels on a mountain train. Three of its other specialities are its chocolate, cheese and carved cuckoo clocks
Information sources. I used Google to find some pictures and Wikipedia to learn more about the Swiss Alps. I have been to Switzerland a few times, so I know some things about it. My Dad also knows a lot and helped me to find the information I needed to make this presentation.
