  1. 2005 Spring CS492 Lab #2 2005.10.06. Thu8pm-10pm Building E3-1, Classroom #3 Kim, Dong-Wook Lee, Dooyoung Kim, Taehee Sue Moon Dept of EECS, Div. of CS

  2. Goals and Overview of Lab #2 • Goals • To measure and compare TCP/UDP thruput of iPAQ • To experience performance degradation of real-time applications over wireless • Overview • Run iper on iPAQ using different channels • Run StarCraft over wireless and experience QoS

  3. Step 1: Preparation • Install iper software on your PDA • Download iper from FTP server(“143.248.134.182”) on your laptop • Transfer iper program to your PDA using the connector • Install iper on your PDA (iPAQ)

  4. Outline of iper • IP traffic generation and measurement software on PDA • http://www.isimus.com/IPer Ex) TCP/UDP connection between server and client

  5. Step 1: Setting

  6. Step 1: TCP Thruput Measurement • TCP thruput measurement under different AP Channels • TCP throughput measurement • Team #1: Run “iperf –c 192.168.11.x –n” • Team #1 and #2 • Team #1 to #5 • All teams • Repeat channel numbers 1, 3, 6, 11 • At the end, upload your log at “192.168.11.x” • Ex) tcp_실험번호_채널 번호_조별.txt

  7. Step 2: UDP Thruput Measurement • UDP thruput measurement under different AP Channels • UDP throughput measurement • Team #1: Run “iperf –c 192.168.11.x –u –p” • Team #1 and #2 • Team #1 to #5 • All teams • Repeat channel numbers 1, 3, 6, 11 • At the end, upload your log at “192.168.11.x” • Ex) udp_실험번호_채널 번호_조별.txt

  8. Step 3: Preparation • Install Ethereal software on your Laptop • Download Ethereal from FTP server(“143.248.134.182”) • Install a demo version of StarCraft on your laptop • Download StarCraft from our FTP server

  9. Step 3: Setting team team team team team # # # # # 2 5 1 9 6 team # 7 team # 8 team # 4 team # 3 SNU 2 Access point DHCP server 802 . 11 g network ( 54 Mbps ) access point access point ( IPv 4 _ KAIST or # channel : 1 ( IPv 4 _ KAIST or IPv 6 _ KAIST ) IPv 6 _ KAIST ) # channel : 1 # channel : 6

  10. Step 3: StarCraft Performance • Game traffic measurement on different channels • Run Ethereal program to collect packets • Run StarCraft program using IPX protocol • Play game * Repeat above using channels, 1, 3, and 5 • At the end, upload your log at “192.168.11.x” • Ex) starcraft_채널 번호_조별.txt

  11. Lab #2: Wrap Up • Questions to ask yourself • What was your PDA’s thruput under 802.11b wireless network? • What was your laptop’s thruput under different channel? • Was there any difference under different channel? If any, why? • Did you feel performance degradation while playing StarCraft? If so, why?
