  1. Abbas Kiarostami on the correlation between life and films Abbas Kiarostami was born in Tehran, Iran. He was a person with many talents. He began his career as a painter, then became a poet, a filmmaker, and a photographer. The process of filmmaking began for Kiarostami when one drew inspiration from everything that happens in his or her surroundings and experiences of life. Abbas Kiarostami has some outstanding Persian movies to his name, including The Runner, The Little Stranger, and others. Kiarostami focuses in this interview on making films from one's own memories, his favourite filmmakers, and why a filmmaker in other films and literature must never look for inspiration. In order to "use them and turn them into movies," he stresses mixing real-life experiences. Kiarostami's journey began at the Children and Young Adults Centre for Intellectual Growth, where he was the first person to establish a film section. Several of the masterpieces of Kiarostami were produced in this section over the years. Close-up and Taste of Cherry, which won the Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival, are some of his stellar films. Kiarostami says that his life was his sole inspiration when asked about his inspiration for filmmaking, and he keeps his senses focused on finding the complexities of life that can then be transformed into an art form. He further states that the creation process in itself is such a beautiful experience that it has inspired him to pursue art over the years. In this interview, Kiarostami's euphoric spirit for life is clearly visible. "He does not thin his words when asked about what he would like to be remembered for and says, "My joy is in my own life and not in the job that remains of me. Having started his journey as a painter who used to paint film posters to win awards at International film festivals, Kiarostami had surely traversed a long way with his love for cinema.
