  1. King’s Head Start Outreach • This presentation will • 1) describe the Head Start curriculum • 2) provide examples of how other King’s students have taught “circle time” • 3) give some evidence of the effectiveness of Head Start • 4) give specifics on how to get involved

  2. Head Start • Uses the High/Scope instructional approach

  3. Examples of what King’s Students have done • Used a calendar to illicit kid’s response about their birthdays, got kids to count the days, had kids identify letters on calendar, etc. • Used a globe to have kids identify the U.S., distinguish between water and land, etc. • Used a laptop PowerPoint to have kids identify colors, count to 5, say alphabet. • Passed out blown-up pictures of money and practiced counting.

  4. If interested... • We go Fridays from 1:15 - 2:30 • Volunteer to observe a class • Collaborate with Dr. Dils to prepare a lesson • Then, teach a class with the support of the Head Start staff and Dr. Dils • See Dr. Dils or email him at kdils@kings.edu to commit to 2 Fridays this semester
