Veterans in Northeast Ohio and at Tri-C • Approximately 1,500 veterans have returned to Cuyahoga County over the past two years • 1,000 over the next two years is anticipated. • Returning veterans and their families require special services and assistance as they access education and the workforce. • Currently 1,000 enrolled at Tri-C (Vietnam to Iraq)

  3. Tri-C’s Veterans Programs… A Multi-Prong Approach • Quick transition back to workforce (WEDD) • College prep assistance (Veterans Upward Bound) • Professional development for faculty and staff. • Committed to serving the families of veterans.

  4. Tri-C’s Veterans Programs (cont..) WEDD offers veterans quick transition back to workforce • Variety of fast-track certification and degree programs that are aligned with Northeast Ohio workforce needs

  5. Tri-C’s Veterans Programs (cont…) Veterans Upward Bound Program • Veteran only classes • 35+ year history in preparing veterans for college • Limited to 100 – 120 veterans per year • Earned national recognition 2009

  6. Tri-C’s Veterans Programs (cont…) Professional development for faculty and staff to address veteran transition issues. • Outreach and sensitivity (health issues) • Technical aspects (Military training) • Legislative Awareness (GI Bill changes)

  7. Tri-C’s Veterans Programs (cont…) Committed to serving the families of veterans. • Eight major family resource events • April 2008 Lee Woodruff event/March 2009 Rand event • July 2009 – 3rd Annual Resource Fair June 2007 March 2008 April 2008

  8. Accomplishments… ● Spring 2010 enrollment up to 1,000… an increase of 200 over Fall 2009. ● 3,880 veteran students directly served to date (November 1, 2007 – February 28, 2010). Service is key!!!! ● 8,805 veteran community contacts (family members, veteran organizations, etc.)

Additional Accomplishments ● Veteran Coordinator at each Tri-C Campus ● Veterans Today Club (now 200-plus) ● Media and legislative outreach conducted (The Ohio GI Promise Task Force, Ohio Secretary of State’s Voting Rights Institute-Veterans Initiative) ● Enhanced relationships with external agencies (i.e, VA), other educational institutions, and legislators
