  1. How The Air Purifiers Purify The Air The promise offered by an air purifier is an interesting one: An appliance that is designed to cleanse the air in your home, getting rid of all the impurities including odors, smoke, dust and pet dander. Given the very fact that indoor air may have levels of certain pollutants up to five times higher than outdoor air, we get it. The air purifiers can indeed neutralize some of the threats that are posed by air pollution and by indoor activities. Realistically, though, not all air purifiers necessarily live up to their marketing hype. Working of the air purifiers The air purifiers generally consist of a filter, or multiple filters, and a fan that sucks in and circulates air. As air happens to move through the filter, pollutants and particles get captured, and the clean air is pushed back out into the living space. Typically, the filters are made of paper, fiber (often fibreglass) or mesh, and they need regular replacement in order to maintain efficiency. Some filters used in the air purifiers are reusable and washable, but they need meticulous maintenance, so you do not usually happen to find them on the most effective air purifiers. The reusable filters are generally good at removing the larger particles from the air, such as dust mites and pollen. You will also be able to find UV (ultraviolet light) filters on the market, which often claim to destroy the biological impurities such as mold or bacteria, but many of them need higher wattage and greater exposure in order to be effective. If you are planning to buy an air purifier for the purpose of eliminating smoke, then you should search for the best air purifier for smoke because not every purifier can do that work. Some of the air purifiers use ionizers to help attract particles like static- negative ions bond to dust and allergens and make them settle out of the air. If you are someone who is interested in buying an air cleaner that uses ionizers, then you must make sure that it does not produce any dangerous levels of ozone, because ozone could end up being a lung irritant and further aggravate asthma conditions. Generally, the air purifiers with ozone will have that listed on the packaging or in the marketing descriptions. Most filters on the market are designed to capture particles like dust, smoke and pollen but they do not catch gases like VOCs or radon that may accumulate from adhesives, paints or cleaning products.

  2. For that, there is another absorbent required which is activated carbon. The Environmental Protection Agency has recommended to frequently replace the filters in order for them to function optimally, and by frequently it means once in about three months. The allergens that are embedded into furniture or flooring are something that are not captured by the air purifiers.
