  5. Solve each equation. -4x + 3(2x – 5) = 31 1. Distribute to undo the parenthesis -4x + 3•2x – 3•5 = 31 -4x + 6x – 15 = 31 2. Combine like terms on the same side of the equal sign. 2x – 15 = 31 3. Undo the number being add/sub. to the variable. + 15 +15 2x = 46 4. Undo the number being multiplied/divided to the variable. 2 2 x = 23
