Crankshaft • The main shaft of an engine that, working with the connection rods, changes the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotary motion.
Camshaft • Shaft containing lobes or cams that operate the engine valves when timed properly with the crankshaft
Piston • A cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process.
Flywheel Key • A small block of metal alloy inserted between the crankshaft and flywheel to prevent damage to internal engine components in the case of sudden stoppage of the PTO shaft.
Connecting Rod • Rod that connects the piston, using the wrist pin, to the crankshaft. Rod cap completes the connection. Screws have fine threads.
Armature • AKA Magneto: Part of an electrical motor or generator that includes the main current-carrying winding.
Cylinder • A round chamber of some depth bored to receive a piston; also sometimes referred to as bore or barrel.

Cylinder Head • A detachable portion of an engine fastened securely to the top of the cylinder block that contains all or part of the combustion chamber.
Dead Center • The extreme upper (top dead center) or lower (bottom dead center) position of the crankshaft throw at which the piston is not moving in either direction.
Flywheel • A heavy wheel in which energy is absorbed and stored by means of momentum

Cooling Fin • An integral thin cast strip designed to provide efficient air circulation and dissipation of heat away from the engine cylinder block into the air stream.

Gasket • A soft, pliable material, such as fiber, rubber, neoprene (synthetic rubber), cork , treated paper, thin steel, or laminated material, used between engine parts to seal and prevent leakages
Intake Manifold • The tube used to conduct the gasoline and air mixture from the carburetor to the engine cylinders.
Piston Pin (Wrist Pin) • The journal for the bearing in the small end of an engine connecting rod. The piston pin also passes through the piston walls

Ignition System • The means for igniting the fuel in the cylinder; includes spark plugs, wiring, armature, and kill switch
Compression System 2/6 • The means for maintaining maximum compression including gaskets, rings, valves, and valve seats.
Fuel System • The means for mixing air with fuel in a filtered, sealed environment and delivering that mixture to the combustion chamber.
Cooling System • The means for an engine to displace heat from the cylinder and combustion chamber. This is achieved through thin aluminum cooling fins pulling heat from the engine block.

Valve Clearance • Gap allowed between end of valve stem and valve lifter (tappet) or rocker arm to compensate for heat expansion.
