I'm pretty new at golf and I am determined to succeed! A great start to golf is a great golf driver!

A Beginner’s Road to Success I was playing Tiger Woods Golf the other day on Xbox 360, and while I really enjoy the game, I realize I have never been able to make time for the sport itself. That changes today. I am now determined to get into golf and hopefully put up a decent score. I’m a pretty competitive person so I’m going to put forth what I can to become good at the sport.
The only real golf experience I have to date was the one time I went to the driving range with my baseball team when I was in high school, which was some years ago. I enjoyed my time there but I always found myself hitting the ball a decent distance with the golf drivers, but at the same time hooking it to the left. I am a lefty, so it makes sense, but I know there has got to be a way to correct that. Anyone have words of advice???
I’m thinking it’s because the particular golf driver I was using may have been a bit heavy for my liking, so my club head speed lacked a bit. I was able to get a good distance on the shot, but if I were to straighten it out a bit I know I could definitely get much more distance on it.
Even with the inability to hit a straight shot, I greatly enjoyed my time at the range, which is why I would like to make it a consistent hobby of mine. My friends play all the time and I would like to include myself in their games without embarrassing myself. I plan on practicing on my own before I ask them if I could join. I was hoping for some recommendations, as a beginner, if anyone could suggest the best driver for my style of play. While I have read many golf driver reviews, all help would be greatly appreciated.
