DRAFT BUDGET 2018 The European Commission has to present draft budgets that are aligned with the commitments made! Commission proposal 19,5 % share to climate action To reach 20 % addition of over 1 billion would have been needed
Energy efficiency of buildings • 40 % of energy is used for buildings • Finance is often the bottleneck for energy efficiency renovations • Commission proposed Smart finance for Smart Buildings initiative • Policy objectives and financing have to go hand in hand
ENVI committee input to MFF post-2020 • Sustain and strengthen EU´s leading role in tackling climate change • Complying with international obligations and commitments • Sustainability test for all financing regulations
Conclusions • Time for action is now! • The next MFF will run seven years from 2021 and the annual procedures are more fine tuning than major changes • The next MFF has to clearly reflect our priorities in tackling climate change • Higher ambition for climate mainstreaming good signal, but has to be put into practice • Promoting climate and sustainability in policymaking has to be continuous work.
Finnish example • Carbon neutrality 2045 • Cut transport emissions by 50 % • 50 % renewables • Ending coal use before 2030
