5. Drilling Methodology PROCESS A pilot hole is plotted and then drilled along a planned path from entry to exit. The cutting head is monitored by the use of various locating devices which send output to the operator. The operator uses that output to steer his cutting head along the predetermined bore path with the use of bent tooling aligned behind the cutting head. A reamer is attached to the drill stem at the exit side of the hole and pulled/rotated through the hole to enlarge its diameter. The reaming stage could take several passes with different size reamers to reach the necessary hole size. Once the desired hole size is achieved, a swivel is attached behind the reamer and to the product for installation into the hole. The swivel protects the product being installed by preventing it from rotating and becoming damaged. Providers of HDD Solutions
