So… You want to do a Senior Search project?
Senior Search is a great opportunity. Beachwood students have produced plays, painted pictures, assisted in cancer research, and gained experience in the business world. If you take the process seriously, you will have an unforgettable experience.
In order to qualify, you must… • Register for Senior Search on Blackboard: Class of 2016 Senior Search • Have passed all Ohio Graduation Tests. • Be enrolled in an average of 6 classes each semester of senior year, or 5 including 3 or more AP. • Have a cumulative average of C- (70-72%) at the end of 3rd quarter and 4th quarter eligibility. • Have fewer than 5 unexcused tardies. • Have no suspensions during 2nd semester.
In order to qualify, you must… • Have no “incomplete” grades at end of 3rd quarter. • Have no failures at 1st semester, 3rd quarter and middle of 4th quarter including Post-Secondary Option courses. • Be earning credit in any credit/no credit class at end of 3rd quarter.
In order to qualify, you must… • Have completed 50 documented hours of community service by Monday, March 14th. • Submit a completed obligation sheet prior to starting the project.
In order to apply… • You must find a faculty advisor who will sign off on the project before submission and with whom the student will stay in close contact during the project. • Register on Blackboard in December in order to access project application.
In order to apply… • Obtain your faculty advisor’s signature (part 1). • You and your parent must sign the student/parent agreement (part 2).
In order to apply… • You must submit a written description of the project, your goals and objectives, and a proposed schedule (part 3). • Your schedule must be specific--include days and times when you will be there. If you don’t know for certain, make an educated guess. • Your on-site coordinator must sign the on-site coordinator agreement (part 4).
In order to apply… • The entire packet must be submitted to Mr. Davis or Mrs. Matthews by Monday, March 14th at 3:00 PM. • You must meet all of the eligibility requirements.
Final Proposal Deadline: Monday, March 14th at 3:00 PM
If your project is accepted, you will be notified in April.Final approval is pending 3rd quarter grades.
3 Week Option begins Monday, May 2nd 2 Week Option begins Monday, May 9nd 1 Week Option begins Monday, May 16th
Keep in mind… • You can be withdrawn from Senior Search at any time. If you are not meeting the requirements of the program, you will be returned to school immediately, and you will not be able to make up the work you missed during Senior Search.
Keep in mind… • The work must be voluntary; there may be no compensation of any kind. You may not work for or be supervised by a family member or relative. • Also, you may not do your Senior Search in a business or organization where you have been employed.
Before departing on your search… • All obligations to the school must be resolved: textbooks must be returned, library fines paid, class fees paid, athletic equipment returned (unless still in use), and of course, you must continue to meet requirements for attendance, grades, volunteer hours, etc.
During Senior Search… • Participate for at least 25 hours per week; 50 (2 week project) or 75 (3 week project) contact hours including any AP class time, AP test time, and/or commitments for band/orchestra/choir, varsity sports and/or Post Secondary Option courses that occur during school hours (8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.). • Keep a daily log sheet.
During Senior Search… • Take responsibility for expenses incurred during the completion of the senior search. • Attend AP courses up until the AP exam day and take the AP exam. • Stay in touch with your faculty advisor throughout the search.
During Senior Search… • Check in on Blackboard for announcements and participate in Blackboard discussion.
After Senior Search • All Senior Search paperwork is due at noon on Monday, May 23rd. • Participate in the project presentation on Wednesday, May 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Gym.
