G.8032 Overview G.8032 is an Ethernet ring protection protocol: Provides efficient network connectivity Provides rapid service restoration (sub 50ms protection) Provides ring interconnections Provides localized service restoration from a network fault Utilizes standard IEEE 802.1Q (bridging) and IEEE 802.3 (MAC) Is client and server layer agnostic Supports operator commands (e.g., manual/force switch, do not revert, clear, etc.) Geneva, Switzerland, 13 July 2013 3
G.8032 Basic Concepts A G.8032 ring is simply a logical construct that provides resiliency over a “closed loop” formed over a physical network infrastructure Multiple ERP instances (e.g., virtual rings) can be provided over a single G.8032 [logical] ring 4

G.8032 Ring Interconnections G.8032 defines two ring constructs {major-rings and sub-rings} which can be interconnected (much like “LEGO building blocks”) NOTE: Network loop freeness of active forwarding path is maintained (during normal state and during all protection switching events) for all interconnection scenarios. 8
