Laboratoire d’Excellence Who Am I? Exploring identity: from molecules to individuals Exploring the determinants of identity - diverse scales of analysis: chemical, molecular, cellular and social. - an inter-disciplinary approach bringing together biologists, physicists, mathematicians and social scientists to address common fundamental questions. Financed by the Investments for the Future program ‘Laboratoire d’Excellence’ call 2: March 2012-December 2019 Who Am I? is lead by Catherine DARGEMONT and Jonathan WEITZMAN coordinated by the Université Sorbonne Paris Cité managed by the Université Paris Diderot. Project manager: Pauline ANDREU Total budget: 11 MEuros

Proposal – Research axes WHO AM I? ExploringIdentity frommolecules to individuals What are the systems (genetic and epigenetic) that dictate the establishment of different cellular states and ensure the transmission of identity to subsequent generations? What are the molecular mechanisms that participate in the maintenance and integrity of molecular and cellular identities? Establishment & Transmission Maintenance & Integrity (Loss of) Identity What are the consequences of these systems to evolution in terms of cumulative changes in identity over time and throughout populations? What is the impact of environment on defining identities and how are identities perceived externally?
