  1. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World What will your class time look like every day? • 6.01 Identify the meaning of time designations and abbreviations used by historians, including: • • BC / BCE • AD / CE • Circa (c. or ca), decades, centuries

  2. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World • Line up in the hallway quietly and wait for the teacher to bring the class in to the room • Be sure to bring your homework to class • Be seated in your assigned seat • Students who have assignments at the beginning of class (give out supplies or Interactive Notebooks) will quickly complete their jobs and be seated • Complete the Bellringer / First Task on the board and wait for instructions • Participate in class and share your ideas with the teacher and other students • Have a great time learning about our ancient ancestors!

  3. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World • This year we will be creating Interactive Notebooks (INB) in class using Composition Books • Every class period we will cover different standards and use our INB to record the information • Students can use their self-created INB as a study aid during the class and to study for quizzes and tests • We will use a variety of writing, mapping, art, and foldables to design the INB’s during Social Studies class • Today we will be getting our INB ready to use by • Gluing on a cover • Numbering the pages • Gluing in the Table of Contents • Gluing in the Rubric • Gluing in an envelope

  4. Each student will have a composition book for Social Studies • It doesn’t matter what color you use • Write your name, block, and teacher very neatly on the cover piece • Cut and paste the piece on your INB Student Name 2A Chastain

  5. 1 • Begin numbering your INB on the upper right corner of the first page

  6. 2 3 • Page 2 will be on the upper left of the next page. Page 3 upper right. • Continue numbering your entire book

  7. 1 • Now we will glue the rubric onto the inside cover of the INB • This is how you will be graded on your INB

  8. Your classwork grade for the INB will be based on this rubric • Notebooks will be checked periodically and grades given at the end of the nine weeks

  9. 1 1 – 4 Table of Contents Aug 5 • Glue the first of 3 blank Table of Contents pages on page 1 • We will glue three more Table of Contents onto pages 2 – 3 later

  10. Inside the back cover of your INB please glue an envelope • Make sure you don’t seal the envelope • We’ll use this envelope to store notecards we use in class so you can find them easily

  14. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World TIME DESIGNATIONS The meaning of AD is Anno Domini or Year of our Lord referring to the year of Christ’s birth. The meaning ofBC is Before Christ.   15. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World TIME DESIGNATIONS CIRCA is used in front of a particular year to say that this is the approximate date when something happened or was made. Circa is widely used in historical writing when the dates of events are not accurately known. When used in date ranges, circa is applied before each approximate date, while Dates without circa immediately preceding them are generally assumed to be known with certainty. It is frequently abbreviated c., ca., or ca. and is written before the date.   18. 6th Grade Social Studies – The Ancient World DAILY ASSIGNMENTS: These will rotate every 4 ½ weeks • GROUP 1 – Pass out INB’s at the beginning of class and put them away at the end of class • GROUP 2 – Pass out any supplies (pencils, markers, glue sticks) that need to be on the tables and put them away at the end of class • GROUP 3 – Pass out any copies that groups may need and make sure all cut paper is in the recycle or trash at the end of class • GROUP 4 – Check the class board and world map to make sure the correct Standard and country are marked • GROUP 5 – Take roll at the beginning of class.
