  1. C & S Presented by James Flynn C&S Chair President’s and Committee Information Session

  2. C & S • Committee acts as the voice of ordinary USU members in governing the C&S program • It’s also a place where new ideas for the program can come from. • Committee meetings are held monthly, on a Tuesday. • At present, committee proceedings are confidential. C&S Committee

  3. C & S • If an issue with your club comes before committee, you may be invited to address the committee. You can also request to address the committee on an issue • Committee members will ask questions to try and clarify and issues or concerns they have with your application. Interacting with Committee

  4. C & S • Please don’t lobby C&S committee members, or ask them to vote a particular way on an issue before committee. • Likewise, please don’t ask them to divulge confidential matters to you. • For any questions about an application before committee, contact the C&S office – this is the best way to get accurate information. Interacting with Committee

  5. C & S • Applications for ordinary members open in O Week for the committee that sits the following year • You can apply for more than one USU student experience committee. Applying For Committee

  6. C & S • The USU requires that you conduct your club in a democratic manner – this includes holding open and fair elections • If you’re unsure about how best to run your AGM, or you’re concerned that it may become unmanageable, contact the C&S office and the Committee chair. AGMs

  7. C & S • Last year, Board Directors attended a number of AGMs as chairs and scrutineers. • The C&S office makes available a list of all eligible voters for your clubs’ AGM – this is the most recent membership list submitted. It’s a good idea to submit your most recent membership list to the office at the same time as you give notice for your AGM. • Where there is a dispute, the C&S manager (Angela) acts as the Electoral Arbiter. How can we help

  8. C & S • We have had a few requests for this recently. • We advise that you put the question of having tickets, rather than individuals, run in your AGM to a general meeting of your club. • Please ask the C&S chair and office for advice on this at least a month out from your AGM. • If people will be able to run formally on a ticket, this MUST be included in the notice your provide. AGMs with tickets

  9. C & S • All executive members are expected to provide a thorough handover to their successor • We are working on releasing a series of resources for clubs, including checklists and guides for handovers. • Good handovers are vital for the continued success and smooth running of your clubs. Handovers

  10. C & S • Anything in your job description not covered by your club’s constitution • Useful contacts inside and outside the USU • Speakers - Merchandise suppliers • Sponsors - Other club execs • Industry contacts • An assessment of what went well, and what could have been done better in your portfolio in the last year. What to include

  11. C & S • Information about any ongoing projects or events that your successor will be responsible for. • Make sure all club materials and assets are passed on • Make an effort to introduce your new core executive to C&S staff during the handover as well – they are there to help new execs settle in.
